The"Trainee Program" should be converted to an immigration program. There is clearly lots of work available for these people, and already greatpressure to increase the numbers. If they are allowed to immigrate and bringspouses they will soon raise the birth rate.

Thegovernment is focused on making life comfortable for the older Japanese whohave run the country into the ground. Younger people are just here to work forpeanuts and pay for the comfort of old folks. Children distract from that primeconcern. Sad but true.

While thecorporate overlords seek servants not employees nothing is going to changeanytime soon. I do wonder if it is too late to fix the child ratio. To boostmore would require a big change in mindset in both corporate and private life.As more people get use to the "freedoms" being child free entails Isuspect less people would willingness to have children. Changing the subjectslightly how does China ,a country with one child policy, have a higher childpercentage than Japan. Maybe it's to do with the life expectancy in China.

Thisproblem is more serious than you may think. Less children means a smallerworkforce in the future, which has repercussions of its own. Smaller workforcealso means less people paying taxes to support those who are older and orretired, and fewer people to care for the increasing aged population.

This is aan important issue I have to address how many times Japan Today has torecycling post about Japan Childreen birth rate fall.

Tokyowas the only prefecture to register an increase in the number of children—up by14,000, the ministry said.

Put thisparagraph all by it's lonesome to make a point about what? Give props whereprops are due Fukuoka and Okinawa are unchanged and Okinawa has the highestratio of the population being "children" at 17.5%

Tokyo isjust a megalopolis and that is one place that does not need any more people letalone kids, and how much does anyone want to bet that the increase is due tofolks moving to Tokyo from somewhere else too.

The otherday, I talked with a lady who came to Japan from Thailand decades ago marryingto a Japanese gentleman. She works as a cleaning lady of our danchi. I askedher which country is easier to live - Japan or Thailand? She asnwered Thailand. She said in Japan if people don't have money, they cannot continue living fromtomorrow. Life is hard here. The Japanese government knowing about decliningpopulation did not take effective measures for long. In my danchi, I know someyoung couples who have three to four children. They are living in a small 2DKrooms. Yet, they have to pay 65,000 yen per month from their small income. Theyalways have troubles with the people living directly under their rooms becauseof noises children make. I always think if the government thinks seriouslyabout the declining population, they should encourage the danchi to give twohouses to people like them removing walls of the next house. The rent should bethe same or free, of course.

I loveJapan but one big flaw that I encountered there is that people put way way tomuch attention in work, work is important, but it's not healthy to put work asthe no 1 priority in your, life, if you ask me, the no 1 priority is family, family comes first, you live your live to be happy, you work to support yourfamily and yourself, you don't live to work.

My wifeand I, happily married for a decade and both 40 (about), have after a long timeperiod of thought, firmly decided not to have children. Again, very happy withthis decision.

The cost, the institutional lack of proper day care and lengthy maternity leave, theschool system which would dominate family life are the biggest factors for her.My biggest concern is whatever she feels the need to do, thus, no kids.

Not muchhelp coming from the govt. even though lots of talk about improving thesituation

How is itthe governments fault if young people won't have kids - wasn't a problem in the70's.

The"Trainee Program" should be converted to an immigration program

Immigrationis not the answer, once that door is open you can't close it - look at how theUK is now, its a mess
